Help wanted

I am looking for some people who would like to help test this site and offer suggestions for functionality. There's not much on the main page yet. It doesn't accept sign-ins, but this entry should accept comments. I have created some basic categories, entries, and only one page.

A page has static content on it. They're like regular web pages. Categories would be kinda like groups of pages or entries. Categories are the old school way of organizing things. We also have tags which are more of a new way to mark content. This is an entry. It's a blog entry to be specific.

The Forums could use a little testing. Feel free to sign up and wonder around. There is a staff group which you can request to be a part of. This group is for people who were or are on staff. There are also moderator groups which help to run the forum and take care of inappropriate postings.Post your suggestions as comments to this entry.

I haven't yet got the picture galleries up and going. I have a fork in the road and am trying to decide which one's I like better. Post your suggestions as comments to this entry.

Please keep in mind that comments are processed in batches every 6 minutes. That means that it could take up to 6 minutes for your comment to post. Why? Because I'm on a budget. I'll put up a donations link sometime ;-)

Some suggested features are as follows:

  • Tie in the website login with the forum login. That's going to take a little work.
  • Allow troops to upload .mp3 files of their troop cheers
  • Allow troops to post movies of their skits (probably best on youtube, and then linked here)
  • Allow troops to post pictures (once the galleries are up)
  • Finish creating pages for the camp areas
  • Figure out a better calendar system. The blog calendar is for blog entries while the forum calendar is more for other things. There are even other ways to do things like a google calendar which could be fun.
  • Allow *@campbartlett.com e-mail addresses. Probably only for the moderators and site helpers, and probably only if the detest using their own e-mails.
  • Allowing personal pages to be created here. I'm not sure about this. myspace is already pretty happening. The forums allow a url in your profile, so perhaps that's the best place for it.
  • Donation section. Hey, the software is free but the server and utilities aren't.
  • Mailing list for up-coming events and news. This could get interesting with a monthly article, scout master minutes, or things like that.
  • And suggestions like yours!

Welcome to the basic layout for the new campbartlett.com website. Not too much here, still needs to be customized. We're on a roll. Heavy changes expected until 2008-08-20 when it's released.

  •     A domain name has been procured. You're on it. I've thrown this initial page up for now, until things are launched.
  •     The forums are up, and most categories are created. This will be our story and experience repository. I have not applied the site theme to it. I have personally tested the forums and beta testing will now begin on the forums. Each forum member gets a little inter-forum e-mail. I'm looking for staff members (past or present) to be moderators in their area. Hit me up at moondog_13 at hotmail dot com if you wish to help.
  •     Wouldn't videos be cool? Saw some on youtube the other day. When things are rockin' and rollin' we'll see if the owners wouldn't mind us linking to them (or embedding them) in the site.
  •     The main site software has been chosen, but no content is in place and the theme isn't customized yet. I have some basic templates for the different areas of camp. I'm looking for people to help contribute content to those areas, preferably from staff members (past or present) as they have become very familiar with the areas of camp over the summer. Talk to me at moondog_13 at hotmail dot com if you wish to help. Beta testing should commence within a week.
  •     Picture gallery is almost up. I'm not sure how it will tie into forums or main site, however it'll be a great collecting place for, well, pictures. Testing should commence within a week, maybe two. This may induce more load on my little server than I'd like so we're going to play it by ear.
  •     E-mail accounts are a possibility. Probably only for site staff and moderators, possibly later for others. Let me know what you think.
